Twin Killing
Identical twins Sydney and Kiersten Braasch, who play for the 900 Volleyball Club 15-1 team and 692 Beach in Bedford, Texas, are simultaneously similar and decidedly different.
“They get along great, but also like to do their own thing,” coach Meredith Grady said.
Among the many things the Braasch’s share on the court is the fact that they are simply unstoppable.
“They read each other very well and feed off of each other’s energy on the court,” Grady said. “Kiersten connects well when Sydney is setting, and Sydney knows how Kiersten likes to be set. They are both extremely quick which makes them great hustlers on the court.
“Both of them also have amazing verticals; which helps Sydney save lots of balls out of the net as a setter and Kiersten is able to hit high over the block. They both have great court awareness and are very controlled players. They do not make a lot of mistakes.”
On the beach, Kiersten plays left and Sydney plays right. Last year at Beach Nationals, the Braasch’s defeated the team that was featured on the cover of Volleyball magazine for having the longest winning streak.
“They are one dynamic duo,” Grady said.
